Profiles:

Henderson: Bernard Joseph (Benny)

He was described in the programme of the game on 11th April 1948: The tallest player in the team, he previously assisted Bohemians Ierne and Transport. Equally adept on either wing, he has a powerful shot in each foot, and, as outside right, scored the goal that won the cup two years ago.

Kinsella: Thomas (Tommy)

He was described in the programme of the game on 11th April 1948: A versatile player, formerly of Shelbourne, he has been a stand-by in emergencies and never failed to justify the club’s confidence in many positions he has filled. Recent great displays at wing-half have warranted his retention.

Jock Henderson gave Leeds the lead in the fortieth minute and John Charles made it two on the hour.

Match Report: From the Irish Times (Thanks to Steve Bell for the Report and scorers etc)

"Leeds proved much the superior side, and well deserved their 2-0 win over a Drumcondra selection in the Henderson-Kinsella joint benefit at Tolka Park last evening. The medium sized attendance was treated to a vey entertaining game, and Welsh International John Charles, leading the visitors' attack, was the main attraction. He gave a grand display, being always dangerous around goal, and his passing and positional sense were also first class."

"The Drumcondra side was only good at times, with Fitzsimmons and Henderson being their most dangerous forwards. Trevor Ford was a big disappointment and missed several scoring chances but Kennedy of Manchester United was very sound at left back as was MacKay on the right. Martin, at centre half acquitted himself very well against Charles."

"Leeds were on top form right from the start completely upsetting the Drumcondra defence with their clever passing. They came very near to scoring when Meek hit the crossbar and Henderson, a very dangerous inside-left, hit the bar and later an upright. The inside-left was rewarded, however, after forty minutes when he beat Martin and shot past Neville for a well-taken goal."

"Drumcondra started the second half in great style but their superiority was short-lived and in the fifteenth minute Charles gave Neville no chance with a hard ground shot for their second goal. The home side tried hard to reduce their arrears but to no avail."
